What This Work Means

Consistent Presence

We show up every week. Our neighbors count on that. Consistency is not incidental to our work. It is the work. Knowing that food will be there on a specific day and time removes uncertainty for families managing limited resources.

Dignity in Service

We do not require justification to receive food. We do not use intake forms. We do not photograph participants without consent. Every person who arrives is treated as a neighbor, not a case number. Dignity is not a program feature. It is a baseline requirement.

Community Access

Having a single distribution site centralizes our efforts and ensures consistent service. While it may require some participants to travel, it allows us to maintain a reliable and predictable schedule for everyone we serve.

We are actively looking for volunteers who can set up additional distribution points to increase accessibility for our community members.

Beyond the Meal

Each distribution event is also a point of connection. Volunteers build relationships with community members over time. Resource referrals link participants to additional services. A bagged lunch is the starting point, not the sum total of what we offer.

Context: Food Insecurity in Lake City

Lake City, SC is a small city in Florence County. Florence County has historically high rates of poverty and food insecurity relative to state and national averages. Local food access infrastructure is limited. Existing services have gaps in reach and hours.

A Small Change operates in direct response to those gaps. We are not a replacement for broader systemic change. We are a direct, local, weekly response to a need.

Our work is local. Every lunch, every pantry item, and every resource referral goes directly to a person in Lake City or the surrounding area.

Every volunteer hour and every donated dollar directly extends the reach and consistency of our programs.
