Mission and Story

Our Mission

A Small Change stabilizes families and individuals in Lake City, South Carolina. We deliver practical, dignity-centered support through direct service programs. We remove barriers. We show up consistently. We treat every neighbor with respect.

Our work focuses on food access, community presence, and resource connection. We serve anyone who needs help, with no paperwork, no judgment, and no requirements. We are a community organization that serves more than food.

Our Story

A Small Change was founded in Greater Lake City, SC Area out of a recognition that local needs were not fully met by existing services. Our founders believed that small, consistent, direct actions build lasting community stability.

The name reflects that belief. A small change in access to food, a small change in community connection, and a small change in visible support can shift the trajectory of a family's week. We repeat that work every week, year-round.

Flagship Program: Free Lunch for Folks distributes bagged lunches, pantry items, and assorted cold drinks weekly in the Greater Lake City area. No requirements. No judgment.

Leadership

A Small Change is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The board sets organizational direction, ensures financial accountability, and oversees program integrity.

Board of Directors

The board is responsible for governance, fiduciary oversight, and strategic planning. Board members serve without compensation.

Program Team

Our program team (yes, the same folks as the Board, because we are a small organization) coordinates weekly distributions and manages volunteer logistics.

Volunteers

Volunteers are always welcome! Join us at our weekly distributions to make a direct impact in the community. We have loving support from people who live in Florence County and need additional support to serve more lunches!
